Tobias Langlotz

Title: Introduction and Current Research: Vision augmentations, visually coherent AR, nomadic telepresence, and virtual tourism

Abstract: This talk will provide an introduction and an overview of current research topics in the area of vision augmentation, visually coherent AR, nomadic telepresence and virtual tourism. We will discuss how advances in visual computing and spatial understanding have the potential to enable more seamless integration of virtual content into the physical world. Additionally, we will discuss the challenges of maintaining perceptual realism and user engagement across mobile and remote XR experiences, and outline future directions for interdisciplinary research.

Bio: Tobias Langlotz is a Professor at Aarhus University, teaching and researching at the intersection of Computer Graphics, Vision, and Human-Computer Interaction (Visual Computing). He is also an honorary Professor at the University of Otago, New Zealand. His long-term interests are in all forms of Mixed-, Extended-, Augmented-, and Virtual Realities. Previous to joining Aarhus University, he was a Professor at the University of Otago (New Zealand), where he founded and co-led the HCI group. He plays an active role in the international research community and, among other service roles, served as General chair for IEEE VR 2022 (Christchurch/Online) and IEEE VR 2023 (Shanghai) but he is also a frequent member of the organising or program committee for ACM CHI/UIST/TOCHI, IEEE VR/ISMAR/TVCG.

Title: XR in Sports and Content Creation: Enhancing Sports Spectating, Training and Broadcasting through Immersive Technology

Abstract: Extended Reality (XR) offers a wide range of possibilities for enhancing live sports spectating, training, and broadcasting by combining real-time data, immersive visuals, and interactive experiences. This talk will discuss how we use XR technology to elevate the experience of watching live sports while also providing advanced tools for athlete training and performance analysis and content creation.

Bio: Stefanie Zollmann is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University in Denmark and an honorary Associate Professor at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Before, she was an Associate Professor at the University of Otago and worked at Animation Research Ltd on XR visualization and tracking technology for sports broadcasting and urban planning. She worked as postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Computer Graphics and Vision (Graz University of Technology), where she also obtained a PhD degree in 2013. Her main research interests are XR for sports and media, visualization techniques for augmented reality, but also include capturing for XR and immersive experiences.
